Incoming Chairman Charles H Ponstein Port NOLA

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans selected new officers with the election of Charles H. Ponstein as Chairman, Jack C. Jensen, Jr. as Vice Chairman and Joseph F. Toomy as Secretary-Treasurer during the monthly Board meeting Dec. 16.

Today, Governor John Bel Edwards welcomed four new 100-foot-gauge container gantry cranes to the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal at the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA), the culmination of a more than 15,643-nautical mile journey from Shanghai, China. The $112 million investment, which included $49 million for the construction and delivery of the cranes, and $63 million to modernize the wharf and extend the crane rail infrastructure, began in 2019 when Port NOLA’s Board of Commissioners approved the project. The four new gantry cranes are essential to Port NOLA’s overall plan for the gateway, which includes optimizing facilities in New Orleans and building the Louisiana International Terminal, a new container terminal, in St. Bernard Parish.

Port NOLA Cruise Restart 2021 2022

The arrival of the Norwegian Breakaway on Nov. 21, 2021 at the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) signaled the start of a big comeback for cruise ship operations. The Breakaway joins the Carnival Glory and Valor who successfully restarted ocean-going cruises in September and early November.

Several south Louisiana ports partnered to request federal assistance as a result of the impacts of Hurricane Ida on their infrastructure, waterways and communities. The Ports of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Fourchon, Morgan City, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, South Louisiana and Terrebonne formally submitted a request to President Biden on Sept. 7, 2021, to ensure ports are included in bills for urgent funding from Congress.

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) container vessel operations resumed today, Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, just nine days after Hurricane Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a category 4 storm. The first two ships worked at the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal were the MSC Charleston at New Orleans Terminal and the Hapag Lloyd CSL Manhattan at Ports America. Seacor’s container on barge service will be worked tonight by Ports America.

Carnival Glory

Carnival Cruise Line announced today that it has an agreement with the city of New Orleans and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide Carnival Glory for first responders housing through Sept. 18.

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) resumed limited cargo and vessel operations, beginning with breakbulk vessel cargo, Sept. 2, 2021, just four days after Hurricane Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a category 4 storm. New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) operations have also resumed with modified hours.

At their August 26, 2021 Regular Monthly Meeting, the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans unanimously approved a contract for Program Management and Program Control Services to HDR Engineering, Inc., a global engineering and consulting firm, as part of the multi-year due diligence and permitting process for the new Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) container facility in St. Bernard Parish.

CLEANCOR

Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) and CLEANCOR Energy Solutions LLC (CLEANCOR), a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings Inc. (SEACOR), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on August 17, 2021, to collaborate on ways to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling solutions to ship owners and operators within Port NOLA’s jurisdiction that would benefit from reduced environmental emissions.

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) discharged 300 steel coils on June 10, 2021 to barge at Coastal Cargo breakbulk and heavy-lift terminal at the Louisiana Ave. Complex that were transported to barge from the SK Shipping Star Challenger and made their way upriver to be off-loaded at the Port of Caddo-Bossier in Shreveport.

PORT NOLA 2020 LOGO ANNIVERSARY 125 YEARS 1 1

July 9, 2021 marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) as an independent subdivision of the State of Louisiana, a self-sustaining public agency. In 1896, the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans was created by the Louisiana Legislature to administer public wharves and regulate trade and traffic on the Mississippi River in Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard.

Port NOLA ONE Modern

THE Alliance and Evergreen launched their new Asia-US Gulf service with the inaugural sailing of the ONE Modern calling on Port NOLA June 21 and marking Port NOLA’s third weekly direct-Asia container service. THE Alliance’s East Coast Loop 6 (EC6) and Evergreen’s Asia US Gulf (AUG) service includes Ocean Network Express (ONE), Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) Yang Ming Line (YML) and Evergreen.
