The University of New Orleans and the Port of New Orleans announced a 5-year agreement aimed at assessing the Port’s activities in order to achieve greater sustainability. UNO researchers will prioritize environmental measures and develop strategies to minimize energy consumption as well as reduce waste and pollutants.

On Wednesday, March 12, an eight-person delegation of transportation and economic development officials from Lithuania visited the Port of New Orleans to sign a memorandum of understanding to exchange market and operational information. The agreement hopes to grow trade and investment between the Port and Lithuania’s Klaipeda Seaport.

Today, Gov. Bobby Jindal and IT Minerals LLC CEO Jose Domene announced a $4.5 million capital investment by the company in Louisiana, where IT Minerals will establish an importing, processing and exporting facility at the Port of New Orleans for minerals sourced from Mexico and other countries.

For the third consecutive year, record numbers of cruise passengers set sail from the Port of New Orleans. Port cruise terminals handled 987,860 embarkations and disembarkations in 2013, up more than 1 percent compared to 2012, which saw a 32 percent gain over 2011.

Gatehouses at the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal reopened at noon today and will operate as usual beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 30), following the winter weather affecting south Louisiana. In addition, the Carnival Elation will arrive as scheduled Thursday morning to disembark passengers and embark on its routine four-day cruise.
